My state (3284) plays all events and really only demands that F2P save. They encourage the F2P to save for SvS, but we’ve lost three of the last four SvS events even though we’ve dominated prep nearly every time. In fact, the only prep we lost was the battle we won. We (3284) had one that burned half of his alliance during prep, ultimately causing us to lose SvS. Interestingly, he was surprised that he couldn’t get enough players to join him for castle after half of his alliance, mostly the ones that would have been joining, left the alliance after getting burned 😂

If you don’t win prep then your state gets invaded, and winning then will not grant you supreme presidency-just a regular presidency. Not saving for prep basically means that you will match with a stronger state and will probably have to work even harder to win.
